Office Cleaning in Winter
An Israeli winter means a real cleaning challenge
Everyone talks about “routine” cleaning. But routine in summer and routine in winter aren’t the same job. Winter brings rain, and with it: mud on shoes, wet floors, smeared windows, a damp smell in the air, and bins that fill up faster (yes, people eat more at the office when it’s cold).
In Israel the rainy season is short and intense. Three or four months of wet floors, mud stains, and umbrellas dripping on every surface. Without adjusting the cleaning plan, an office goes from “clean” to “slippery and smelling of damp” within a week.
5 problems that arrive with the rain
1. Wet, dangerous floors
People walk in with wet shoes, and the “path” from the door to the desk turns into a slick floor. That’s not just dirty, it’s a hazard. A slip at the office can mean a lawsuit.
2. Mud stains at the entrance and in the corridors
Mud doesn’t stay on the floor. It climbs onto rugs, stairs, and even chair upholstery (when someone drapes a wet jacket over the back of a chair).
3. Condensation and damp on windows
The temperature gap between inside and out leaves water droplets on the windows, mold in the corners, and a damp smell. It hurts both the look of the place and people’s health.
4. Odors
Damp plus poor ventilation (because in winter the windows stay shut) equals odors. From the kitchen, the bathrooms, the cleaning cupboard. In summer you open a window. In winter you need a different fix.
5. A busier kitchen
In winter more people eat lunch at the office, because it’s cold outside. More microwave use, more dishes, more trash. The kitchen needs more attention.
What a professional cleaning company does differently in winter
At CleanTeam, once the rainy season starts we adjust the cleaning plan:
- Reinforced entrance mats. Two mats: an outer one to scrape and an inner one to absorb. Together they catch 70% of the dirt before anyone even steps inside.
- Extra entrance cleaning. The entrance area gets cleaned twice as often. We don’t wait for the end of the day.
- Anti-slip treatment. On slick floors (marble, glossy tiles) we use products that improve grip.
- Active drying. We don’t just wash, we dry. A floor that’s washed and left wet in winter means two hours of a slippery floor.
- More disinfection. There’s more illness in winter. We disinfect door handles, keyboards, and high-touch surfaces on every visit.
Tip: one entrance mat isn’t enough
Plenty of offices put a single mat at the door and think the problem is solved. The reality: one mat catches maybe 30% of the dirt. The rest comes inside on people’s shoes.
The fix: two mats (outer plus inner), cleaning the entrance twice a day, and a “wet floor” sign when needed. Sounds like overkill? It’s exactly what prevents a slip-and-fall claim.
