Moving offices? Cleaning is the part you can’t skip
An office move is a complicated project. Between boxes, movers, IT pulling apart and reconnecting equipment, and furniture turning up, cleaning is usually the last thing on anyone’s mind. But here’s the truth: without professional cleaning before and after, the move turns chaotic, the new office won’t look “new,” and the old one could cost you your deposit.
Cleaning before you move into the new office
Even a “new” office isn’t clean. Dust, leftovers from the previous tenant, or grime from finishing work. The checklist:
- Washing every floor (including under cabinets and along walls)
- Wiping down walls and ceiling
- Cleaning windows, inside and out
- Cleaning AC units and filters
- Full disinfection of the bathrooms and kitchen
- Cleaning the insides of cabinets (before any equipment goes in)
The rule: clean before the boxes arrive. Once the furniture is in place, you can no longer reach the floor or the walls.
Cleaning the old office is in your contract
Most lease agreements require you to hand the office back “in reasonable condition.” A professional clean of the old office means a better chance of getting your deposit back. It’s a good idea to document (photograph) the state of the office after the cleaning.
On moving day, cleaning in real time
Moving day itself is built-in chaos. It pays to have a cleaning crew on site:
- Protecting floors in traffic areas (covers)
- Clearing away packaging, plastic wrap, and cardboard as you go
- A final clean at the end of the day, so the first morning is spotless
