Cleaning Offices With Special Requirements
Not every office is a room full of desks
When people hear “office cleaning,” most picture an open space with desks, chairs and computers. The reality is a lot more varied. There are offices with server rooms kept at 18 degrees all year round. There are open-plan floors with 200 staff and a kitchen that feeds an army. There are labs full of sensitive equipment. And there are studios with photography gear worth hundreds of thousands of shekels.
Each one plays by different cleaning rules. A cleaning company that treats them all the same is not a company you want.
Server rooms: cleaning without static
A server room isn’t just another room. It holds electronic equipment worth anywhere from hundreds of thousands to millions. The rules:
- No water. First rule and last rule. Dry wiping only, with anti-static cloths.
- Special cleaning agents. Ordinary products generate static that can damage electronic components.
- An ESD vacuum. Not a regular vacuum, but one with electrostatic-discharge protection.
- Raised flooring. Many server rooms have a double floor with cabling underneath. You need to know how to clean it, and what not to touch.
Open-plan: lots of people, few walls
An open-plan floor is a cleaning challenge for three reasons: lots of people, lots of movement, and few partitions. That means:
- Dust builds up fast. 50 people coming and going equals a lot of particles in the air.
- Crowded desks. You have to clean around personal gear without moving anything.
- Noise. Cleaning an open-plan floor during work hours means a vacuum disturbing 50 people. So we clean in the evening.
- Zoning. We split the floor into zones and clean them in order, so we never block the walkways.
Labs and clinics: standards and requirements
Labs and clinics have hygiene requirements that a regular office never deals with:
- High-level disinfection. Not just cleaning, but approved disinfection of work surfaces.
- A waste protocol. Some materials can’t go in a regular bin. The cleaning crew has to know the procedures.
- Access limits. Not everyone can enter every room. It takes coordination, sometimes an escort.
- Documentation. In some cases you have to record who cleaned, when, and which products were used.
